135382813Maintaining your HVAC system can help you keep it working efficiently for a longer period of time. There are certain ways that you can check on how the unit is functioning. Use the following tips to create an HVAC preventative maintenance checklist that will help you extend the life of your unit.

Replace Your Air Filter

Your air filter does a lot of work, especially when you run your HVAC system for long periods of time. You should replace your air filter once every three months to ensure optimal efficiency. Take a look at it every month, though, to see if it starts to get dirty sooner than normal. Try to buy a quality filter that will grab onto the most particles to keep them from clogging up your unit.

Check on the Unit

Spend some time looking at the outside part of the unit to ensure that nothing is affecting it from the exterior of your home. Brush away leaves or other debris that might be disturbing the unit. Make sure there is at least 2 feet of space around the HVAC system to encourage optimal efficiency.

Hire the Professionals to Inspect the Unit

Once a year, it is a good idea to hire the professionals to come in to look at your HVAC unit. This way, the professional repair team can thoroughly look over your unit to determine if everything is functioning properly. If they see a problem, they have the tools and the expertise to fix it so your unit works well enough to keep your home at a comfortable temperature without increasing your energy costs.
