Five Things To Check Before Calling An Air Conditioning Repair Contractor

December 6th, 2013

Air conditioners are one of today’s modern miracles to most, but they can be a pain if they’re not working properly. Luckily, there are some issues that you can fix yourself. Check out some of these issues before, “calling in the cavalry.”

1. Check the Batteries and Thermostat

Open the thermostat panel and remove the batteries. Install fresh batteries and try to turn your system on again. If the A/C unit still doesn’t turn on, check your thermostat settings and make sure the thermostat is set to cool. Lower your temperature below the current room temperature in order fort he A/C to kick in.

2. Check the Air Filter

The air filter not only keeps the air in your home clean, but also the air in your system. A clogged filter can stop the air from flowing properly through the system which can shut down your entire system.

If your filter is fairly new you just may have to hose it down outside and let it air dry, then replace it before turning your A/C back on. If your filter is old, you may be better off just replacing it with a new one.

3. Check There’s No Blockage in your A/C Condenser Unit

It’s not uncommon for outside debris to get into your condenser overtime. With the system turned off completely, from the outside power switch as well, you can take a few minutes to remove surrounding debris, check the condenser oils, and then clean them off.

4. Check your Breaker Panel or Fuse Box

Check that the fuses and circuit breakers are in place in your breaker panel. Flip your breakers off, and then flip them back on to ensure they’re in the right place.

5. Check the Indoor Unit Safety Switch

There should be a safety switch that’s located on a wall near by or attached to the system itself. Check that it didn’t get switched off accidentally.

If you still can’t figure out what’s wrong with your A/C, you may consider looking into Russett Southwest, your Tucson Air Conditioning and Heating Provider. They offer Tucson air conditioning repair services that are sure to get your system working again.
